2019 ALA Girls State Goes to Emerson “Emmy” Beaupre

The American Legion Auxiliary is proud to be sending this superb nominee: Emmy Beaupre to this years Girls State! We are proud to support our future leaders of America and we are sure Emmy will be among the best. Each summer, approximately 16,000 young women participate in weeklong ALA Girls State programs across the nation. Every American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program operates with the same patriotic values through a nonpartisan curriculum where students assume the roles of government leaders, campaigning in mock parties (often called “Federalists” and “Nationalists”) to become mayors and county and state officials of their ALA Girls State. The program is a weeklong immersive learning experience, often held on a college campus where girls live in “cities” within a dormitory-like setting. The learning, experience, memories, and friendships last a lifetime.

Emmy is all smiles and proud Father Russ also became a new member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 36. A win for everyone!
Post 36 Commander Tom Strossner and Member Cody Camacho had the honor of meeting Emmy before she heads off to Girls State. Hopefully one day we meet her again maybe when she’s Mayor, Governor, President? The future looks bright either way.

Conner Parks proves thoughtfulness still exists!

The American Legion Post 36 is absolutely awed by this outstanding young man. Conner Parks, an Eagle Scout at Troop 155 gave a wonderful presentation at the S.A.L. Meeting last night. Him and some of his friends went out to ALL SAINTS Cemetery and not only found all of the Veterans’ grave sites, but he documented them and mapped them and compiled them into a database that we can use and update. This young man garnered support that ended up putting over 650 man hours into this project. There is no word to describe the absolute humility and pride this thoughtful act has instilled in us, but beyond that this means that no veteran will be missed or forgotten. To say thank you Conner is not nearly enough.
